Kontoor Brands lifts quarterly dividend 2 percent as Helly Hansen fuels growth

Kontoor Brands (NYSE: KTB), the Greensboro, North Carolina company behind Wrangler and Lee, raised its quarterly dividend 2 percent to $0.54 per share on October 22. The increase lands as the apparel maker absorbs Helly Hansen and reports its strongest revenue growth in years.

What the increase means for shareholders

The board lifted the regular quarterly payout by one cent, from $0.53 to $0.54 per share. The dividend is payable December 18, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 8. Annualized, the payout rises from $2.12 to $2.16 per share.

At the recent share price of $63.52, the new rate implies a yield of roughly 3.4 percent. A $100,000 position buys about 1,574 shares, which now generates approximately $3,401 per year in dividend income — about $63 more than the old rate produced.

Key numbers at a glance

Metric Prior New
Quarterly dividend per share $0.53 $0.54
Annualized dividend per share $2.12 $2.16
Indicated yield at $63.52 3.33% 3.40%
Earnings payout ratio — 38.1%

The payout consumes 38.1 percent of earnings at current levels, leaving room for the buyback program announced with second-quarter results. Analysts expect Kontoor to earn about $6.34 per share next year, which would push the payout ratio toward 33 percent.

Helly Hansen is driving the growth

Kontoor’s second quarter showed why the board felt comfortable raising the payout. Revenue climbed 19 percent to $584 million, up from $493 million a year earlier. The Helly Hansen acquisition contributed $114 million of that total, led by roughly $70 million from its Sport line and $37 million from Workwear.

Alongside those results, the company raised its full-year outlook and said it expected to enter a $400 million accelerated share repurchase. Between the dividend and the buyback, management is returning cash on two fronts while the integration proceeds.

What to watch on November 2

Third-quarter results arrive Monday, November 2, with analysts looking for earnings of roughly $1.33 per share. UBS expects a modest beat but sees limited upside in the shares, a reminder that the stock has already priced in much of the good news.

Three items deserve attention in the release. Whether Wrangler and Lee organic growth holds up without Helly Hansen propping up the top line. How the Workwear segment behaves as industrial hiring cools. And whether the company reiterates the full-year outlook it raised in August.

Risks income investors should weigh

Kontoor’s dividend history is short — the company split from VF Corporation in 2019 — and the raise averages under 2 percent annualized over recent years. Consumer spending on apparel can swing sharply with confidence and weather. Tariffs and supply chain costs remain live issues for any company sourcing globally.

The 3.4 percent yield and 38 percent payout ratio make the stock a reasonable mid-yield holding for income portfolios. It is not a bond substitute, and the share price will move with consumer sentiment.
