Minerals Technologies (NYSE: MTX) declared an 8 percent increase in its quarterly dividend on October 21, lifting the payout to $0.13 per share and extending its streak to four consecutive years of raises. The specialty minerals producer also faces a mixed analyst picture and a third-quarter earnings report due October 29.
What the board approved
The board raised the regular quarterly dividend from $0.12 to $0.13 per share. The new payout goes to stockholders of record at the close of business on November 5, 2026, and will be paid on December 3, 2026. Annualized, the dividend rises from $0.48 to $0.52 per share.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Douglas T. Dietrich tied the raise to the company’s cash generation. “This is the fourth year in a row that MTI’s Board of Directors has authorized an increase of our quarterly dividend,” he said in the announcement. The board cited its “confidence in MTI’s continued ability to deliver steady cash flow.”
Key numbers for income investors
| Metric | Old rate | New rate |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly dividend per share | $0.12 | $0.13 |
| Annualized dividend per share | $0.48 | $0.52 |
| Annual income on $100,000 invested | $749 | $812 |
| Indicated yield at $64.06 close (Oct. 23) | 0.75% | 0.81% |
A $100,000 position at the October 23 close of $64.06 buys roughly 1,561 shares. At the new rate, that stake generates about $812 per year in dividend income. The yield is modest. The story here is consistency — the fourth straight annual increase — rather than current income.
The business behind the payout
Minerals Technologies sources, manufactures, and sells specialty minerals and mineral-based products for consumer and industrial markets worldwide. The company reported $2.1 billion in global sales for 2025, employs about 4,000 people across 34 countries, and carries a market value near $2 billion.
The stock has traded in a wide band this year, between a 52-week low of $53.94 and a high of $84.34. The shares closed at $64.06 on October 23, down from their 200-day moving average of roughly $72.60.
What to watch on October 29
Third-quarter results are due after the market close on Thursday, October 29. Analysts expect earnings of about $1.48 per share on revenue near $552 million. Those figures will be the first test of whether the dividend raise reflects durable cash flow or optimism about a recovery still ahead.
Two issues loom over the print. The company carries talc-related legal uncertainty, which has weighed on reported results — trailing-twelve-month GAAP earnings per share sit at a loss of $2.16, against adjusted estimates near $5.74 for the full year. Cost inflation in energy and raw materials remains a headwind for margins.
Analyst outlook is split
Wall Street does not agree on the stock. Freedom Capital Markets maintained a buy rating with a $90 price target on September 23. Zacks Research cut the shares from hold to strong sell on October 14. The consensus among the three covering analysts rates out to a “reduce,” even though the average price target of $90 sits well above the recent price.
Free cash flow per share estimates run near $3.46 for 2026, comfortably above the $0.52 payout. Income investors can treat the dividend as well covered. Size the position accordingly given the legal overhang and the analyst disagreement.
