ConocoPhillips raises dividend 11 percent to 93 cents after third-quarter earnings more than double

ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) raised its quarterly dividend by 11 percent to 93 cents per share on Thursday, pairing the increase with third-quarter adjusted earnings that more than doubled from a year earlier. The new payout equals $3.72 per share annually and arrives after the strongest quarter of the company’s year.

ConocoPhillips raises its dividend again

The Houston-based producer declared the higher dividend alongside its third-quarter results on November 5. The payment is effective with the fourth-quarter dividend, payable December 1 to stockholders of record at the close of business on November 16. Management described the raise as consistent with its top-quartile S&P 500 dividend growth objective.

The company also reaffirmed its plan to return 45 percent of cash from operations to shareholders in 2026. That formula splits capital between dividends and share repurchases, which gives the payout a cash-flow anchor rather than a one-quarter earnings anchor.

Key numbers from the third quarter

Metric Q3 2026 Q3 2025 Change
Reported earnings $4.0 billion $1.7 billion +132%
Reported EPS $3.34 $1.38 +142%
Adjusted EPS $3.27 $1.61 +103%
Production (MBOED) 2,302 2,399 -4%
Cash from operations $7.2 billion – –

Higher commodity prices drove the earnings jump, partly offset by lower volumes. Special items in the quarter primarily reflected the reversal of a tax reserve, which lifted reported results above adjusted earnings. Production slipped 97 MBOED year over year, or 2 percent after adjusting for closed acquisitions and dispositions.

Adjusted earnings of $3.27 per share beat the roughly $2.97 consensus by about 10 percent. Revenue and other income reached $20.06 billion, up 29 percent year over year.

What the dividend increase means for income investors

The raise lifts the indicated annual rate from $3.36 to $3.72 per share. Based on Wednesday’s closing price of $136.94, the new payout yields about 2.72 percent, up from 2.45 percent at the prior rate.

Metric Prior rate New rate
Quarterly dividend per share $0.84 $0.93
Indicated annual dividend $3.36 $3.72
Yield at $136.94 2.45% 2.72%
Annual income per $100,000 invested ~$2,453 ~$2,716

A $100,000 position now generates roughly $2,716 in annual dividend income, about $263 more than before the raise. For retirees holding the stock for income, that is a meaningful step up in a year when money market yields have drifted lower.

What to watch from here

  • Fourth-quarter production guidance of 2.32 to 2.36 million BOED implies sequential volume growth.
  • Full-year capital expenditure and adjusted operating cost guidance remain unchanged.
  • Realized commodity prices remain the swing factor for both earnings and the 45 percent cash return formula.

Investors watching dividend safety should track cash from operations rather than headline earnings this quarter. The tax reserve reversal flattered reported results, but the dividend math runs on operating cash.

Dividend timing and common mistakes

Shares must be owned before the ex-dividend date, which falls one business day before the November 16 record date under T+1 settlement. Investors buying on the record date itself will not receive the December 1 payment.

  • Do not chase the stock for a single dividend payment; the yield matters, not the declaration.
  • Do not assume the raise repeats each quarter; ConocoPhillips typically lifts its payout once a year.
  • Do not overlook the tax treatment of qualified dividends in a taxable account.
