TSMC Q3 Profit Hits Record NT$763 Billion as AI Demand Drives Sixth Straight Beat

Taiwan Semiconductor posted a record third-quarter profit on October 15 as demand for AI chips overpowered a broad market selloff. Net profit reached NT$763.06 billion, roughly $23.55 billion, up 69 percent from a year earlier and ahead of the NT$746.3 billion analysts polled by LSEG expected.

Why the TSMC record quarter matters

TSMC silicon sits inside every major AI accelerator on the market. Revenue beat the top end of the company’s own guidance by nearly $1 billion, marking the sixth straight record quarter and the eleventh straight quarter of profit growth.

TSMC’s results have become the sector’s tell. When the foundry beats its own guidance by $1 billion, chip designers and suppliers across the AI chain read through to their own order books.

The report landed on a rough morning. Hot inflation data lifted expectations for rate increases, the S&P 500 fell 1.1 percent Wednesday to 7,718.94, and a gauge of chip giants had sunk 4.3 percent in the selloff that preceded the print.

TSM stock reaction and analyst outlook

The ADR closed at $430.00 on Tuesday, down 3.4 percent, and traded near $423.60 before the open on Wednesday. Shares remain up roughly 43.5 percent year to date.

Barclays raised its price target to $665 from $650 on October 6 and kept an Overweight rating. That implies about 55 percent upside from Tuesday’s close, while the average one-year target near $578 implies about 34 percent.

Reports of the earnings call said TSMC’s chief executive sees no sign of a slowdown in demand. Media reports also said the company confirmed talks with Elon Musk about a Texas fabrication site while insisting on operational control.

The stock still slipped with the tape, which is the pattern investors should recognize. Record fundamentals do not immunize a growth name from rate-driven selling.

What the dividend pays income investors

The yield is modest at roughly 0.85 percent forward. At Tuesday’s close of $430, a $100,000 position owns about 233 shares and collects roughly $850 a year at the current payout.

What to watch for TSM investors

  • AI spending durability. Record profits assume hyperscaler capital budgets keep climbing into 2027.
  • Rates and inflation. Hot prints pressure the growth names that carry the index.
  • Concentration. Most advanced AI silicon comes from one island, and headlines move the stock fast.
  • Overseas fabs. Texas and Arizona projects spread single-site risk over time, at high capital cost.

Bottom line

A record quarter with the stock under pressure is the tension investors must weigh. The case rests on earnings growth rather than yield, and the next print will test whether AI budgets keep outrunning the macro noise.
